Explosions rock Mumbai Jewish centerMUMBAI, Nov. 28  -- Explosions rocked a Jewish center in Mumbai Friday as commandos took positions on its roof for a final assault to end two days of terrorists' carnage.

The center, called Nariman House or Chabad House at Nariman Point, is a favorite of Israeli tourists, who along with Britons and Americans appeared to have been the main targets of the rampaging gunmen who began their killing spree Wednesday night in the sprawling metropolis of nearly 20 million.

Israeli diplomat: No Israelis freed from Jewish centre in Mumbai

Tel Aviv  - No Israelis have been freed from the Jewish centre in Mumbai where an unknown number of hostages and about three terrorists are believed to be holed up, Israel's consul general to Mumbai said Friday morning.

Orna Sagiv said a group of people freed Thursday appeared to have been local Indians evacuated from a home in the same compound, not the Israelis held hostage in the Jewish centre in Nariman House.

Overall, about 30 Israelis were still unaccounted for, she told Israel Radio, although she stressed they likely included some backpackers who might have already left Mumbai and, therefore, could not be reached.

Centre declares seven-day mourning for former PM V.P. Singh

New Delhi, Nov 28 :The Central Government has announced a seven-day state mourning from Friday as a mark of respect to the former Prime Minister V. P. Singh.

The state funeral will take place at Sangam in Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh on Friday.

Singh died at the Apollo Hospital here on Thursday after a long illness. He was 77 and is survived by his wife of Sita Kumari and two sons Ajeya and Abhai.

On hearing of his demise, the Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh, expressed grief and said he was deeply saddened to learn about Singh''''s death.

In his death, India has lost a great patriot and a builder of our nation whose empathy for the weaker sections would always be etched in our national consciousness, said Dr. Singh.

Virginia father, daughter missing after Mumbai terror attacks

Mumbai, Nov. 28: A Virginian father and his daughter who were visiting India are reportedly missing after the terrorist attacks in Mumbai.

Alan and Naomi Scherr, who traveled to Mumbai with the Synchronicity Foundation, a religious group based in Virginia, have not been seen since the series of coordinated attacks occurred late Wednesday, the group''''s vice president told the Lynchburg News Advance.

According to Fox News, the group was hosting a meditation program at the Oberoi Hotel, one of the luxury hotels targeted by the Muslim militants.

Several witnesses reported Scherr and his 13-year-old daughter being shot in a restaurant and are feared dead.
