German Islamists face no charges after deportation

Berlin, GermanyBerlin - A family of Germans who converted to radical Islam will not be facing any charges when they are returned to their homeland from Egypt, an official said Thursday.

Egypt deported the family of five the previous day.

They had reported ripped up their German passports, saying they did not want to belong to "a nation of infidels."

None of the family is fluent in Arabic, which made communication with Egyptian police difficult.

German woman jailed for support of Turkish left group

Ankara, TurkeyDusseldorf - A female German journalist was given a suspended, 20-month jail term Thursday for supporting a far-left Turkish group that is blamed for terrorist attacks.

Heike S, 43, had originally been accused of membership in the terrorist wing of Devrimci Halk Kurtulus Partisi-Cephesi (DHKP-C), a party seeking a Marxist-Leninist state in Turkey.

The court in Dusseldorf convicted her on the lesser charge of supporting a terrorist group.

The group is accused of firebombing Turkish missions in Germany and beating up renegades and rivals.

German court rejects delay in Demjanjuk prosecution

German CourtKarlsruhe, Germany - Germany's federal court rejected on Thursday a delay in the expected prosecution of former prison-camp guard John Demjanjuk, 88, for atrocities in the Nazi death camp at Sobibor, Ukraine.

The appellate court ruled that prosecutors in Munich must take on the case, which was referred to them by Germany's national office for investigating Nazi crimes.
