Jordan's king leaves Amman for an official visit to Japan

Jordan's King Abdullah II Amman - Jordan's King Abdullah II left for Japan on Sunday for a working visit that was due to last for several days, the royal court announced. The monarch would meet with Japanese Emperor Akihito and have talks with Prime Minister Taro Aso on the latest developments in the Middle East and efforts to re-launch peace negotiations between Israel and the Palestinians.

The discussions were also expected to focus on means of boosting bilateral economic and trade ties. Abdullah was also scheduled to meet in Tokyo with prominent politicians, parliamentarians and private sector leaders.

Germany gives 92.5 million euros in economic aid to Jordan Amman  - Two agreements were signed in Amman Thursday under which the German government extended 92.5 million euros (122.8 million dollars) in economic aid to Jordan, an official statement said.

The two accords, part of the German development cooperation programme with Jordan for the fiscal year 2008-2009, were signed by the Jordanian Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Suhair al-Ali and the German ambassador in Amman Joachim Heidorn.

Britain concerned over demolition of houses in Jerusalem Amman  - British Foreign Secretary David Miliband on Thursday expressed his country's opposition to the demolition of Palestinian houses in Jerusalem, saying the city should be the capital of both Israel and the future Palestinian state.

"We view with real concern the proposed demolitions in East Jerusalem," Miliband told a press conference he jointly addressed with his Jordanian counterpart Nasser Judeh.

"Jerusalem should be the capital of the Palestinians and Israel," he said.
