Rahul Bajaj not happy with son’s move to drop the brand Bajaj
After the differences over exiting the scooters market were just about to settle between the father and son, Rahul and Rajiv Bajaj, Rajiv's decision to drop the Bajaj brand from its products and focus on five core brands has once again ignited a fire between them.
According to the announcement by Rajiv Bajaj a week before, Bajaj will take an image of a garage of independent brands like Hindustan Unilever wherein marketing and branding focus is limited to four motorcycles Boxer, Discover, Pulsar and KTM as well as the auto rickshaw, while the parent brand takes a back seat.
However, Rahul Bajaj has made it clear that dropping a Bajaj brand is a big decision and hence it can't be done alone with the approval of the board of directors. "So such proposal has come to me by now," he added.
According to the junior Bajaj, "The Bajaj brand is very diffused, covering everything from heaters, hair oil to insurance and financial services. Correcting that problem is the biggest opportunity for the company." It may be recalled that the father and son also had different opinions on the small car project with Nissan over the branding issues.
