Psychiatrists ask for ban on ads displaying food disorders
It was at from the Royal College of Psychiatrists' (RCPsych) which led them ask for a ban on the commercials and other publications related to eating disorders.
The RCPsych is concerned of the unhealthy and ill images which are being published on various magazines and televisions which may take a toll on patients leading them to suffer from eating disorders such as anorexia and bulimia.
Nevertheless the primary concern related to these are also linked to biological and genetic factors but the psychological and social factors too effect an individual creating a mental envelope says, Dr Adrienne Key, consultant psychiatrist at the RCPsych, according to sources.
Dr. Key further added, "There is a growing body of research that shows the media plays a part in the development of eating disorder symptoms - particularly in adolescents and young people".
Media has a strong hand in influencing people. It may create mental blockages for people raising concerns when an eating disorder is pictured, says Susan Ringwood, chief executive of beat, the eating disorders charity.
