PSUs to hold sponsorship money for Commonwealth games
Union Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh said today that it is not compulsory for the PSUs to spend money in sporting events. He also said that sponsorship in commonwealth games is voluntary on the part of PSUs and they should take their own decision. He passes this statement just one day after when PSUs were asked to hold back their sponsorship money for commonwealth games.
However most of the corporate companies have left suddenly in alarm from the games, leaving only one option left for PSUs to jump to the crisis-ridden organizing committee of the Commonwealth games.
He also said that earlier PSUs have been asked for sponsorships but now as the situation is surrounded by so many corruption controversies so PSUs have been suggested to hold on and let the things settle down so that there is no ambiguity while sponsoring the games.
PSUs were told to old on the amount up to Rs 260 crore reserved for the event. NTPC and Power Grid have committed to sponsor the event jointly with an amount of Rs 60 crore, out of which RS 40 crore are held back by them. Similar is the case with Railways who are the lead partners of the Games has also asked for clarification before spending money.
Mamata Banerjee, Railway Minister said in the Lok Sabha that Railway has promised RS 100 crore from his budget to be released for the Games but still things are not clear that how these funds should be released for CWG.
Yesterday, in the CPP meet, Sonia Gandhi turned out in aggressive mood and said that people found guilty of corruption related to the Commonwealth games would be severely punished once the games get finished.
