Privilege notices row: ''Members of Parliament must show a large heart'', says Prasad
New Delhi, Aug 30 : A day after privilege notices were issued by Parliament against civil society activist Kiran Bedi and actor Om Puri for using ''derogatory and defamatory'' language against politicians, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) spokesperson Ravi Shankar Prasad urged lawmakers to have a large heart and forget about it.
"Well, certain criticisms of Members of Parliament thought not in every dignified language has caused some genuine anger, but I would feel that as Members of Parliament we must show a large heart," Prasad told mediapersons outside Parliament here.
"And speaking very personally in my individual capacity as a Member of Parliament, I feel privilege etc. is not the appropriate thing. Let us show a large heart and rise above," he added.
Members of both Houses of Parliament have issued privilege notices against both Bedi and Puri for using ''derogatory and defamatory'' language against politicians and the matter is under the consideration of the Chair.
Both Puri and Bedi had allegedly targeted politicians and used derogatory and defamatory language against them during veteran social activist Anna Hazare''s fast for a strong and effective Lokpal Bill at the Ramlila Ground in New Delhi.
Actor Om Puri has, however, regretted making these remarks and said the choice of words was inappropriate.
He said that he should have used appropriate language for describing the country''s political class. (ANI)
