Portsmouth sign Greek midfielder Basinas
London- Portsmouth completed the signing of Greek midfielder Angelos Basinas from AEK Athens on Monday.
The 33-year-old, who was part of Greece's victorious Euro 2004 side, has agreed an 18-month contract.
"We've brought in someone of immense experience, the current captain of Greece who is just three games away from winning his 100th cap for his country," Portsmouth CEO Peter Storrie told the club website.
"He's exactly what we need in the situation that we're in. He's a player that (manager) Tony (Adams) was eager to bring to Pompey.
"He desperately wanted to come here, and we have an option to sign him for a further year on top of the 18 months."
Another Greece international, forward Theofanis Gekas, has joined on loan from Bayer Leverkusen until the end of the season, while Portsmouth are understood to have had a bid accepted for Tottenham's Mexican teenager Giovani dos Santos. (dpa)
