Police say deadly bomb blast in Iranian mosque was accident

IranTehran- The deadly bomb blast in the southern Iranian Fars province might have been an accident and not sabotage, a local police commander said Sunday.

A bomb exploded on Saturday during a speech by a local cleric in a mosque in provincial capital Shiraz, killing at least 10 people and injuring more than 180.

Commander Ali Moayedi told Fars news agency that the explosion was not sabotage but an accident.

The commander added that recently a military exhibition was held in the same mosque and the munitions stocked there might not have been properly removed and hence led to the explosion.

Foreign Ministry Spokesman Mohammad-Ali Hosseini told reporters Sunday in Tehran that investigations were still continuing. (dpa)
