Police recover two homemade bombs in southern Philippine city

Manila - Philippine policemen recovered on Friday two homemade bombs outside a factory in a southern city, a police official said.

The explosives were placed in a hauling truck parked outside the factory in Zamboanga City, 875 kilometres south of Manila, according to city police chief Senior Superintendent Lurimer Detran.

Detran said the homemade bombs - made from ammonium nitrate with fuel oil and wires - were placed inside two 1-litre soft drink bottles.

Police bomb experts successfully removed and defused the explosives.

Zamboanga City has been hit in the past by deadly bomb attacks perpetrated by al-Qaeda-linked Muslim Abu Sayyaf rebels and Jemaah Islamiyah militants. (dpa)
