Tuesday saw display manufacturer Viewsonic confirming that it is mulling to enter the 3G smartphone market.

Viewsonic did not reveal which OS platform it will support, or a timeframe in which it would deliver products. The company confirmed that it would ship phones to China first, after which it will ship them to Europe and later North and South America.
 
As of now, it is not clear, how will Viewsonic’s phones would be different from others in a crowded smartphone market. A press release however confirmed that the company would make an effort to use its display technology as a means to set itself apart from the crowd.

Via a statement, the company informed that as the demand for mobile phone functionality increases, ViewSonic's heritage in display technology plays an important role in the development of smartphones.  Consumers are demanding larger screens, greater color saturation and contrast to take advantage of new services such as mobile Internet, television and video applications, gaming and eBooks.
