Philippines to dispatch medical team to disaster-stricken Myanmar
Manila - The Philippines will send a medical team to Myanmar to help in relief efforts in the aftermath of a cyclone that killed more than 22,500 people, a senior government official said Wednesday.
President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo also ordered health and foreign affairs officials to find out what medicines are needed in Myanmar, according to Executive Secretary Eduardo Ermita.
"I got information from the Department of Health that a 15-member team of doctors and paramedics are being prepared," he said. "This (the sending of medical team) can happen within 24 hours."
Some 41,000 people remained missing in the aftermath of Cyclone Nargis, deemed the worst disaster to hit South-East Asia since the December 2004 tsunami. (dpa)
