Pervez Musharraf was in two minds till minutes before live address to the nation

Former Pakistan President Pervez MusharrafIslamabad, Aug 19: If close aides to former Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf are to be believed, the beleaguered General was in two minds till the last moments before he addressed the nation live on the state run PTV.

They said that suspense filled the Presidential Palace in Islamabad in the final minutes before Musharraf announced his resignation (as President).

A small group of journalists, who were invited to the imposing building for the speech caught a glimpse of a tense looking President heading towards his date with destiny, reported the Daily Times.

“Until the last minute he was in two minds, facing a choice between fight and flight,” the paper quoted a close aide of Musharraf as saying. This aide had strongly advised Musharraf to cling to power.

Presidential spokesman Rashid Qureshi said Musharraf had moved to the palace from the Army House on Sunday as pressure piled on him. Security was noticeably less tight than in the past and there was only a thin presence at the gate and the entry to the main building. (ANI)
