Dhoni named captain of World T20 Team of Tournament

Mahendra-Singh-DhoniDubai, April 7 : The International Cricket Council (ICC) Monday announced the men’s Team of the Tournament for the World Twenty20 in Bangladesh, with India’s Mahendra Singh Dhoni as its captain.

The team includes four players from India, two each from South Africa and the West Indies, and one each from Australia, the Netherlands and Sri Lanka.

Chosen by a select group of experts, the team was aimed at being suited for Bangladeshi conditions, on the basis of performances at the just-concluded World T20 tournament. Statistics were used but were not the sole basis for selections.

India scored 159-7 as they were sent in to bat first by Australia captain George Bailey and Australia were bowled out for a trifling 86 in 16.2 overs as Ravichandran Ashwin grabbed 4-11 helping India to a 73 run win.

The Indian bowling attack has been slammed by critics for its failure to win matches on foreign soil and the team also failed to make the final of the recent Asia Cup in Bangladesh, which was played in the 50-over format.

mahendra singh dhoniWellington, Feb 15 : An unbeaten 72-run partnership between Ajinkya Rahane (64 batting) and Mahendra Singh Dhoni (39 batting) took India to 301 for six, 109 runs ahead of New Zealand, in the second and final Test at the Basin Reserve here Saturday.

The only blip in an otherwise near perfect session for India was the fall of Virat Kohli (38).

Though, it was all smooth sailing for the visitors. India were made to work hard for the 100 runs after lunch as New Zealand adopted negative bowling tactics.

Dhoni along with Hashim Amla (South Africa), James Anderson (England), Michael Clarke (Australia), Alastair Cook (England) and Kumar Sangakkara (Sri Lanka) was named Tuesday in the short-list for nominees for the prestigious award.

This dedication is a joint venture between the Kerala Cricket Association (KCA) and the Greater Cochin Development Corporation (GCDC), who own the stadium.

Dhoni inaugurated the pavilion, earlier the VIP box, and went around the 1000 sq. ft. area of space which has numerous pictures of the cricketing legend who retired last week.

Star Sports appoint Dhoni as brand ambassador

A Manchester United fan, Dhoni will invite fans to 'Join the Game' in a new campaign which will be launched early next week.

This news comes on the back of the sports broadcaster announcing the launch of Hindi commentary for the first time on Premier League. The Hindi commentary will be in addition to the English commentary and will be available for over 100 live matches across the season.

BCCI awards Rs.1 crore to each member of victorious Indian team

Indian-team-champions-trophyMumbai, June 24  : The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Monday announced that each member of the Indian team will be awarded a cash prize of Rs. 1 crore for winning the Champions Trophy Sunday night.

Led by Mahendra Singh Dhoni, India beat England by five runs in a thrilling final at Edgbaston, Birmingham to be crowned Champions Trophy winners for the second time. India had shared the title with Sri Lanka in 2002.

BCCI also announced in a statement that Rs. 30 lakh will be given to every member of the support staff.(IANS)

BCCI to take up Dhoni issue after Champions Trophy

Jagmohan-DalmiyaNew Delhi, June 10 : Indian cricket board interim chief Jagmohan Dalmiya Monday promised to look into Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s alleged conflict of interest after the team returns from the Champions Trophy being held in England and Wales.

“I don’t want to disturb the team during the Champions Trophy. I gain nothing by doing that. We have taken a note of the (Dhoni) issue, we are looking into it but we are not going to hound someone,” said Dalmiya at an emergency meeting of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) here.

Adjusting to new ODI rules overseas will be challenging: Dhoni

Mahendra-Singh-DhoniMumbai, May 28 : India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni Tuesday said playing under new rules in ODI cricket will be their main challenge in the Champions Trophy beginning June 6 in England and Wales.

Speaking ahead of the team's departure for the last ever Champions Trophy tournament, Dhoni said it was a good opportunity for India to win the tournament.

"We have not yet won Champions Trophy, so it is a good opportunity for the team. The competition will be great but we have a balanced side," Dhoni said. India and Sri Lanka were declared joint winners of the 2002 edition.
