Abbas, Olmert to meet for last time before Israel's Kadima primary

Ramallah  - Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert is scheduled to meet Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas on Tuesday evening, for their last talks before his ruling Kadima party chooses a new leader.

The parley would be business as usual, senior Palestinian negotiator Saeb Erekat said, adding the Palestinians would work with Israel's prime minister for as long as he continued to serve.

"Leaving or not leaving," Erekat told Voice of Palestine Radio, "we work with the prime minister of Israel and we will continue to do so."

Ehud OlmertTel Aviv - Israeli police officials were holding a crucial meeting Sunday to decide whether to recommend that Prime Minister Ehud Olmert be indicted for alleged corruption.

The meeting comes after detectives from the national fraud squad spent months investigating Olmert, including questioning him seven times.

Israeli media reported that the police recommendation will centre around three of the affairs in which Olmert is implicated.

He is accused of receiving hundreds of thousands of dollars, most of it via envelopes full of cash, from US-Jewish fundraiser Morris Talansky.

Olmert, Abbas meet in Jerusalem for talks review

Jerusalem - Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas met on Sunday for the second time in a month to discuss the progress of the peace negotiations.

A spokesman for Olmert said the two sides continued discussions on core issues and that there were still gaps between the parties.

"There is a need for ongoing serious efforts" to solve the "complex issues on the table," said spokesman Mark Regev.

Regev stressed that there were no attempts during the meet at Olmert's Jerusalem residence to force a joint document in the upcoming weeks and that the goal was to reach an agreement by year's end, as was stated when the Annapolis peace process was launched last autumn.
