People from 117 countries watch UN racism conference online
Geneva - The United Nations Durban Review Conference against racism ended Friday with delegates adopting the final outcome package of documents, setting a framework for combating discrimination and intolerance.
UN statistics given to the German Press Agency dpa showed that nearly 100,000 people from 117 countries and territories watched the events online though a Webcast made available on the organization's Website.
"There was sustained interest in the conference, which was not dependant on the speaker," said Ramu Damodaran, spokesman for the conference. "There was a general interest in what was going on."
More people would have attended the conference, he said, but financial resources were limited, particularly for activists on race issues from poorer countries.(dpa)
