Karachi, Jan. 31 : It seems that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is itself not sure as to what it wants to do when it comes to organizing practice matches for players who are under going fitness problems or are under pressure to perform inorder to secure their places in the national squad.

In an abrupt u-turn from its earlier decision of holding two practice matches ahead of the Test series against Sri Lanka, the PCB has now dropped the idea.

According to The News, Pakistan cricket coach Intikhab Alam said that the idea of the Chief Selector Abdul Qadir, of having two trial matches has been dropped.

"The boys have been given training programmes. Some of them will be resting, while others will be competing in Quaid-e-Azam Trophy games, which is why we have decided against having trial matches," Alam said

The practice matches were seen as the last chance for players like Shoaib Akhtar, who is under immense pressure to perform on the international arena after his unimpressive show in the come back matches against Sri Lanka, to stake a claim for selection.

The Rawalpindi Express, as Akhtar is popularly known, making come back in international circuit after 14 months, lacked pace and ferocity in his bowling for which he has been known, raising questions about his fitness and commitment. (ANI)
