Pathway Genomics kits to be available at Walgreen stores
San Diego-based pharmaceutical company, Pathway Genomics is going to make its generic testing products available at the retail pharmaceutical stores of Walgreens.
While some look at the step as a good decision for the consumer interest, many scientists believe that it is not going to be very useful for screenings.
The product will be available as kits and will be available at all the drugstores of Walgreens.
Till now, these testing kits were sold by Pathway along with three other big names on the Internet. Doctor's office was also used as a selling point. But since these failed to attract many customers, pathway was forced to go for physical retail alternative.
It is estimated that 50,000 to 100,000 tests are conducted through these kits. But pricing has also proved to be a big trouble for the companies.
One genetic-marker test could cost a user in between $400 to $2,000. The patients, on the other hand, are looking for some cost-affective alternative.
Now, Pathway is trying to get the cost down to $20. In that case a specialized test will cost merely $79 to $249, depending on the kind of test that is to happen.
