Islamabad, Oct. 8 : The Pakistan Parliament''s in-camera joint session to discuss the state of national security has begun.

President Asif Zardari, on the recommendation of the Prime Minister, Yousuf Raza Gilani, summoned the in-camera session to discuss current security situation in the country and devise a comprehensive and consensus strategy in order to counter scourge of terrorism and extremism.

Top officials of the army, security and law enforcing agencies will brief the elected representatives on security, law and order situation and rise in suicide attacks over the last 12 months, reports The News.

There would also be debate on security threats to the country. These include operation in the tribal areas, steps being taken to reduce civilian casualties and win hearts and minds of people.

Deputy Speaker National Assembly Faisal Karim Kundi said since it was in-camera session, no one will be allowed to witness proceedings, including journalists. There will be no guests or special invitees, except for those who will brief the parliamentarians.

He said after conclusion of joint sitting, a press release will be issued. There will be no briefing for media.(ANI)
