Oneida Nation’s Turning Stone Resort Casino undergoing $370M expansion

Turning Stone, a tribal casino-resort owned and operated by the Oneida Nation in Upstate New York, is undergoing a major expansion project that has specifically designed to attract conventions.

The expansion project was first announced in September last year, but its details are now coming to light. It is the largest expansion of the gambling-friendly property since it was opened to the public as a bingo hall in July of 1993.

The expansion project will add a new state-of-the-art hotel and massive additional convention space to the existing facility. Billed as “The Next 30,” in an affirmation to the property’s history, expansion will roughly cost $370 million to the Oneida Nation Enterprises – the federally-recognized tribe’s economic arm.

The blueprint of the expansion project includes increasing the resort’s convention & events facilities by adding additional space of around 77,000-square feet. In other words, convention & events facilities will be doubled in terms of area covered at the resort. There will be a 30,000 sq. ft. ballroom that will overlook the Shenendoah Golf Course as well as The Lodge’s Great Lawn. A new indoor parking garage will offer space for as many as 2,000 vehicles.

Upon the completion of the expansion project, Turning Stone will offer Upstate New York’s largest convention space and it will be one of the three largest in the entire New York State.

Oneida Nation Enterprises said in a statement, “Along with its existing facilities and partnerships, the new conference center will expand the resort and the region’s marketing reach throughout the Mid-Atlantic region and New England, and to new industries, while attracting larger and more prestigious organizations and events.”

The expansion, which has specifically been designed to allow the property to cater to large conferences and conventions, will also refresh the hotel’s 825 guest rooms. Additionally, a new hotel tower will be erected to offer 258 new rooms and suites.

Meanwhile, Oneida Nation Enterprises is planning to rebrand to Turning Stone Enterprises to complement the expansion project. The rebranding will take effect from 1st of October this year.

Apart from the Turning Stone Resort Casino, the economic arm of the federally-recognized tribe owns and operates the Yellow Brick Road Casino and Point Place Casino, which are situated in Chittenango and Bridgeport. In addition, the tribal entity is responsible for The Lake House at Sylvan Beach, a dining & entertainment complex that features a boutique casino equipped with nearly one hundred slot machines.
