Nokia to introduce ‘Virtual Music Stores’ in India
Nokia, the world's largest cellphone maker, is presently in talks with leading music content providers and music companies for rolling out its virtual music stores in India.
Under the facility, consumers would be able to access and download music on their mobile phones and PCs.
Sources reported that Finnish mobile handset maker is currently joining hands with around 150 music companies including Universal Music, Warner Bros, Sony BMG and other national music leaders.
The company is likely to launch the service initially in India with a free one-year subscription on purchase of select Nokia handsets.
However after that, the customers will still be able to download as much music as they want and keep it on their phone / PC even after their subscription expires.
It may be noted that recently, Nokia launched similar service in the United Kingdom on 5310Xpress music device, which is evincing good response from music lovers.
However, the company officials reported that its format may be different than the one in UK as preferences of Indians are different from the English. The company expects to launch the services in the first half of this year.
