‘Four Christmases’ On Top Box Office Again

‘Four Christmases’ On Top Box Office AgainThe holiday spirit of moviegoers, has pushed 'Four Christmases' to the top of the box-office chart, second weekend in a row. Despite unfavourable reviews, the Reese Witherspoon / Vince Vaughn romantic comedy, a hit with audiences, has racked up $18.2-million in ticket sales, taking its two-week total to $70.8-million.

A faltering economy, weak consumer spending and no major new movie opening, did not prevent it from being a solid weekend at the box office, with revenue up over 2007 for the fifth weekend in a row.

'Twilight', the vampire romance surged to No. 2 spot from No. 3 last weekend, thanks to the appeal it holds out to teenage girls, raking in $138.6-million over a three-week run. More of a Romeo and Juliet story, the only difference is that Romeo is a 17-year-old vampire.

Disney's dog story 'Bolt' featuring the voices of John Travolta and Miley Cyrus, grabbed the No. 3, while 'Australia' starring Nicole Kidman and Hugh Jackman, had a slow start, but gaining momentum as word of mouth about the movie spreads, has overtaken James Bond's latest film - 'Quantum of Solace', moving up on spot from No. 5 to No. 4, while Bond drops one spot from No. 4 to No. 5.

Universal Pictures' limited release 'Frost / Nixon' has turned out to be the weekend's biggest success stories. All about post-Watergate television interviews between British TV personality David Frost and former President Richard Nixon, the film, an excellent history lesson for those who didn't live through Watergate, is already generating an Oscar buzz.

New releases to feature among the Top 10 include Marvel comic book adaptation 'Punisher: War Zone' at No. 8, and 'Cadillac Records' about founder of Chicago Blues label - Leonard Chess, at No. 9. The coming weeks will have a slew of highly anticipated movies starting with Fox's 'The Day the Earth Stood Still', scheduled for a Friday theatre release.
