Allen fires in season-high 35 points, hot Celtics win 12th straight

Allen fires in season-high 35 points, hot Celtics win 12th straightLos Angeles  - Sharpshooting Ray Allen was on fire and the Boston Celtics remained red hot.

Allen scored seven of his season-high 35 points in overtime, and the surging Celtics extended their winning streak to 12 games, with a 122-117 come-from-behind road victory over the Indiana Pacers on Sunday night.

"Ray's just on fire," Celtics coach Doc Rivers said. "He had a great game and a great overtime. He hit all the shots when we needed him to."

Kevin Garnett collected 17 points, 20 rebounds and five steals while Paul Pierce contributed 17 with eight rebounds for the league-leading Celtics (20-2) whose run is the longest since winning 14 in a row during the 1985-86 championship season.

"We just know how to execute down the stretch. We got stops, we got plays," Celtics point guard Rajon Rondo said. "When you have players like Ray (Allen) and Paul
(Pierce) that you can go to down the stretch, they make great plays every night."

Marquis Daniels scored a season-best 26 points, Danny Granger added 20 while Jarrett Jack contributed 17 off the bench for the Pacers (7-13) who have dropped five of their last six games.

Indiana handed Boston one of its two losses this season. After the defending league champions squared the series, 114-96 on Wednesday night, the Pacers looked to be pulling off another upset in regulation.

"We came out with a lot of energy and focus," Daniels said. "We just didn't close it out."

Jack was fouled and made both free throws with 14.4 seconds left to give Indiana a 105-102 edge. Allen misfired on a 3-pointer, but Eddie House (15 points) grabbed the rebound and sent the ball over to Pierce, who drained the game-tying triple from the left wing with 7.5 seconds remaining.

"We were one rebound away from winning in regulation, but they got the rebound and made the shot," Pacers head coach Jim O'Brien said.

After Jack missed a 3-pointer, Garnett grabbed the rebound and called timeout with eight-tenths of a second left. When Rondo threw the inbound pass away, the Pacers had a final chance to win. But Jack again missed a jumper and the game went into overtime.

Rondo's runner gave the Celtics a 113-110 edge, before Jack split a pair of free throws to pull the Pacers within two with 1:13 left.

Allen, however, buried his seventh 3-pointer of the game and two free throws, pushing the lead to 118-111 with 28 seconds to go.

Jack's free throw and T. J. Ford's 3-pointer with 22.8 ticks left got the Pacers within 118-115. However, Pierce and Garnett each made two free throws to seal the win.

"We just found a way to win," Rivers concluded. "They played terrific. We stole that one and that feels great."

Elsewhere: LA Lakers 105, Milwaukee Bucks 92: Kobe Bryant had 20 points, Derek Fisher added a season-high 19 and the 17-2 Lakers matched their best 19-game start in franchise history.

Andrew Bynum collected 14 points and 14 rebounds for the Lakers, who led by as many as 27 en route to the wire-to wire win.

Rookie Joe Alexander topped Milwaukee (9-14) with a career-best 15 points off the bench.

Portland Trail Blazers 98, Toronto Raptors 97: Steve Blake buried the game-winning 3-pointer with eight seconds left, and the Trail Blazers spoiled Jay Triano's home-debut as Raptors' interim head coach.

Triano replaced fired Sam Mitchell in mid-week, but his first game on Friday night was a disaster as the Raptors were blown out 114-87 by the Utah Jazz.

In this one, the Raptors led by 16 in the first-half and 10 in the final quarter before Blake's heroics sent them to their fourth straight loss.

LaMarcus Aldridge scored 20 points and Blake finished with 19 for Portland (15-7) which won for the seventh time in the last eight games to jump ahead of idle Denver atop the Northwest Division.

Jermaine O'Neal topped Toronto (8-11) with a season-high 24 points and six blocked shots. Chris Bosh netted 19 points, while Spanish point guard Calderon had 15 and
13 assists.

New York Knicks 104, Detroit Pistons 92 Chris Duhon had 25 points with nine assists, Quentin Richardson added 23, and the Knicks regrouped after nearly squandering a nearly-insurmountable lead to hold off a late rush by the visiting Pistons.

Al Harrington scored 18 points, Wilson Chandler, 17 while David Lee finished with 12 and 19 boards for the host Knicks (9-11) who stopped a three-game slide).

New York built a 29-point first-half cushion, that was sliced to 96-90 with 1:42 left. But Harrington drained a key 3-pointer, 20 seconds later, and the Knicks hung on for the win.

Tayshaun Prince had 23 points and 10 rebounds for the Pistons (11-8), who fell to 0-5 on Sundays. Allen Iverson and Arron Afflalo added 17 points apiece. (dpa)
