Baghdad - US forces handed over on Wednesday the security file of Wassit province to Iraq's security forces amid celebrations.

Wassit is the thirteenth province to take over responsibility for security operations from the US forces. Wassit is located some 170 kilometres southeast of Baghdad.

US forces still control the Iraqi Capital of Baghdad and four other northern provinces.

Celebrations took place in a sports stadium with the participation of hundreds of security forces members and government representatives. (dpa)
