Lehrakapura (UP), Oct 12 : Rescue workers struggled in Uttar Pradesh on Sunday to save a two-year-old child, who fell into a 150-feet deep narrow bore well.

The rescue operation, which has been going on for more than three-days in Lehrakapura village, have still not yielded any positive result and chances of the child''s survival seem thin.

Two-year-old Sonu has fallen into the uncovered bore well on Thursday in Lehrakapura village near Shamsabad town, 26 km from Agra.

The rescue workers are trying their best to reach the child, as they grapple with hurdles coming their way.

"Right side wall of the borewell had caved in. We are trying to reduce the height of that wall. We will have to dig another pit a little distance away from the main borewell. Last evening, when our army team had almost reached the site, then the wall on this side of the borewell which is around three feet width and 20 feet in length collapsed on the machine and the driver somehow managed to escape. But still we are trying our level best and are leaving no stone unturned to save the child," said Anil Kumar, District Magistrate, Agra.

Residents thronged the site as they watched anxiously the rescue workers do their work.

The story of Sonu falling into a borewell is not new. Earlier too there have been several cases of children falling into borewells in various parts of the country.

In March, the authorities rescued a two-year-old girl Vandana in Agra from a 45-feet bore well at Tehra village.

In a similar incident, a five-year-old boy, Prince, had fallen into a 53 feet deep and 1.5 wide shaft in Shahbad in Haryana in July 2006. The army was able to rescue him from the pit after two days.
