Strange lung disorder of a girl cured by Viagra
Use of Viagra on a seven year old girl indicated that the drug has non-sexual, therapeutic uses.
Natalie Archibald of Musselburgh, Edinburgh another girl of this age suddenly collapsed when she opened her presents on Christmas Day two years ago.
When taken to a hospital by her parents, the doctors thought that she was over excited and treated her to calm her down.
When Natalie recovered she was never the same again as she suffered fits from exhaustion and sometimes was not even able to breathe normally.
She was taken to the hospital again but doctors found it difficult to know about her condition.
Natalie began to collapse and started turning blue frequently after the first incident in 2006 and her mother Janis gave up her job as a legal secretary to take care of her.
Janis said, "It was so frustrating because I knew there was something wrong with my wee girl but no one could find out what it was."
Her case could not be diagnosed until a doctor, new to her, studied Natalie’s record and carried out more tests and diagnosed.
She was found to be suffering from primary pulmonary hypertension in the lungs and was referred to Great Ormond Street Hospital in London.
Viagra, more known as a treatment for male impotence, was prescribed for her and since then her life has changed.
Janis was surprised at the treatment given which saved her daughter’s life.
She said, "I've never seen her so happy. She can run, jump, skip, all the things her friends do. We have a wheelchair for her if she gets exhausted, but we've never had to use it, and I hope she grows out of it before we need to,"
Natalie now no longer faints but her condition remains quite fatal
Progressive disorder causes abnormal high blood pressure affecting the arteries in the lungs and Viagra opens the arteries and improves the blood flow.
