South Korean LG Electronics posts profits up in second quarter
Seoul - South Korean concern LG Electronics posted profits for the second quarter up 84 per cent on the basis of strong demand for mobile phones and flat-screen television sets, in figures published Monday.
The country's second-largest electronics maker said profits for the quarter had come in at 707 billion won (700 million dollars) up from 385 billion won in the same quarter last year.
Global turnover rose 22 per cent to almost 13 trillion won.
LG said it had sold a record 2.7 million mobile phones in the quarter, with sales of top-of-the-range models booming. It pushed Sony-Ericsson from fourth place in world rankings.
LG Electronics is also profiting from a booming market in LCD and plasma screens, with the digital screens division showing a 37-per- cent rise in turnover to almost 3.7 trillion won.
The company also produces computers, fridges and other household appliances. (dpa)
