Nawaz Sharif says Musharraf’s days are “numbered”
Lahore, June 13: PML-N leader and former Pakistan premier Nawaz Sharif has appealed to the agitating lawyers and his party workers not to waste their energy in carrying on “oust Musharraf” campaign since the President’s “days were numbered”, and instead advised them to focus on the reinstatement of the judges sacked by Musharraf.
Addressing a massive gathering at Yadgar Chowk to bid farewell to the participants of the lawyers’ long-march, he regretted that lawyers and the masses had to struggle for the restoration of the judiciary even in the presence of an elected government
Responding to slogans of ‘Go Musharraf Go’, Nawaz Sharif asked the protesters not to exhaust their energies for ousting Pervez Musharraf because the “president’s days were numbered”.
Criticising the role of the military in politics, Nawaz Sharif urged the people to pledge to bury dictatorship once and for all with President Musharraf. “We are not cattle or idols that men in uniform trample on us after every 10 years,” The News quoted him as saying.
He said millions of people had given unprecedented sacrifices during the partition of the subcontinent not to see a dictator abrogating the Constitution after every 10 years and start ruling the country. “Pakistan is on the verge of destruction. If the people do not play a decisive role, they will be doomed to witness further destruction,” he added. (ANI)
