Firefighters snuff electrical fire at German Opera
Berlin - Firefighters extinguished a fire at the German Opera in Berlin overnight Wednesday.
Contrary to a fire at the Berlin Philharmonic two weeks ago where much of the roof was destroyed and the building sustained significant water damage, the opera house incident was minor, according to fire officials.
About 30 firefighters were dispatched when an alarm was raised at 2120 GMT. A coworker at the opera noticed light smoke, including in a stairwell of the building in Berlin's Charlottenburg district.
The fire occured in wiring in a suspended ceiling in an upper floor of the opera house. Firefighters quickly extinguished the blaze and no injuries were reported. There were no performances at the German Opera on Wednesday. (dpa)
