Berlin calls on Myanmar to free political prisoners
Berlin - Germany's government called Wednesday on Myanmar's military junta to release all political prisoners.
Asked for comment on the six-month extension of house arrest for opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi, Foreign Ministry spokesman Martin Jaeger said a process of reform was more urgent than ever.
"We call on the government of Myanmar to immediately release Aung San Suu Kyi along with all other political prisoners, to desist from further arrests and to usher in a credible reform process that embraces all groups of society," he said.
Suu Kyi has been under continual house arrest for the past five years. Since returning to the country in 1988, she has spent 12 years under house arrest. (dpa)
