Seoul, South Korea-headquartered automobile manufacturer Kia Corporation is investing heavily in its ongoing transformation from ICEs to electric powertrains. The company has plans to develop an all-new EV-dedicated architecture, and the first production all-electric model to be based on that architecture will reportedly be a mid-size electric sedan.

According to a fresh media report, a mid-size electric sedan based on the upcoming new EV-dedicated architecture will be produced under the project name GT1, which will likely be as an ideological successor to the Kia Stinger. The report also claims that the electric sedan in question will be an E-segment EV as per Europe’s classification. In that case, it will likely be somewhat bigger than the existing Stinger, at least in terms of exterior magnitudes.

The GT1, which is expected to be launched sometime in 2025, will be based on the new eM platform, which will accommodate a massive 113.2-kWh battery pack. It means that the electric sedan will have a larger capacity battery than that of the Tesla Model S, Mercedes-Benz EQS, and Kia EV9. When it comes to range, it will reportedly be able to cover a distance of up to 497 miles (approx. 800 km) on a single charge.

The upcoming electric sedan will reportedly be made available in single-motor and dual-motor versions, which are said to be already under development with the range-topper model featuring a system capable of producing 603 hp (450 kilowatts). If the report is authentic, it would be more powerful than the EV6 GT. In fact, it would be the most powerful production EV in the brand’s history.

It is worth-noting here that the Kia brand is owned by Hyundai Motor Co., and the two companies have decided to invest more than $18 billion in their transformation to become fully-electric entities somewhere around the end of current decade. Obviously, the GT1 project won’t be the only electric model from the group to feature components & technologies based on the new EV-dedicated architecture. In terms of modularity, the new architecture will reportedly be one step ahead of the Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP).

As far as the Kia Stinger is concerned, the South Korean automaker will discontinue it by the end of 2024. The 2024 Kia Stinger Tribute Edition, which is already sold out, comes with a starting price tag of $54,565 (inclusive of destination and handling fees).
