Lago Resort & Casino will Meet Environment Standards, say Developers

Officials are reviewing environmental reports of a proposed Lago Resort & Casino project. The process of checking of over 3,000 pages reports has started second round of the project’s State Environmental Quality Review Act (SEQRA) process. Backers are supporting the project by saying that it will be beneficial for Seneca County.

According to backers and developers of the $425 million and 84-acre casino project, it is a beneficial project for the town of Tyre in Seneca County. The project will be beneficial for the town without posing any threat to the environment, they said. On the other side, opponents do not agree with backers’ claims.

Wilmot Sr. of Wilmorite and M. Brent Stevens of Peninsula Pacific released a statement on Wednesday and said that the Lago Resort & Casino project does not harm the environment and will meet all environmental standards. All they want is approval to move ahead with the project.

Wilmot said, “We have said since day one that we intend to be good neighbors and that commitment has never wavered. Lago is about creating jobs, boosting tourism and providing revenues to local governments”.

The project, which was slated for the town of Tyre in Seneca County, stumbled in July this year when the Tyre Town Board’s environmental approved review was voided by a state appeals court. According to the court, the board did not provide any clear written record to show its negative declaration.

In the earliest statement, Wilmot said he was taking the Lago project as if it was building in his backyard.
