As per reports, stations have been set up on Friday in Anderson and Clemson for blood donations. The efforts are part of American Red Cross campaign and blood or platelets will be donated by people so as to commemorate the terrorist attack of 2001.
The campaign is encouraging donors of blood or platelets to make an appointment for giving blood at the Anderson School District 5 office from 8 am to 12:30 pm on Friday. It is required for donors in Pickens County to make an appointment for donating blood from 10 am to 2:30 pm on the Clemson University campus at the Hendrix Student Center.
There is requirement of blood and platelet donors of all types, particularly Type O negative that is the universal blood type, which could be transfused to patients having any blood type.
According to Donna Morrissey of the Red Cross Biomedical Services, "Giving the gift of life to someone else is a way to continue the healing process in the face of tragic circumstances Americans couldn't imagine before that day".
This Red Cross campaign will be conducted together with 9/11 Day, which is an organization that promotes the attack's anniversary as an annual day of service. Glenn Winuk, who is brother of 9/11 Day founder Jay Winuk, was one of the 3,000 Americans who died in the jihadist attacks in Washington, DC and New York nearly 14 years ago.
The campaign will begin next week and people can contribute by spending their time to help the American Red Cross in addition to donating blood or platelets.
