Dixons to sell Pixmania website to German group
Electrical goods retailer, Dixons has said that it is planning to sell French-based Pixmania website to Mutares, Germany based conglomerate.
Under the deal, Dixons will pay £58million to the new owner of the website, which was acquired in 2006. The website has not been able to increase sales as it faced stiff competition from the likes of Amazon. The deal with Mutares will be subject to four months consultation with Pixmania's works council for complying with French laws and the payment of £58million will ensure that funds are available.
Dixons is also planning to sell 32 ElectroWorld shops in Turkey to a Turkish rival firm, Bimeks in a deal valued at £2million. The loss making stores will be sold to the local competitor allowing company to better focus on its operations. Group chief Sebastian James said that there are too many competitors in turkey and ElectroWorld would better perform under a larger business. ElectroWorld is the market leader in Greece, which is facing difficult economic conditions.
Dixons has been a major player in the UK with its chains Currys and PC World.
