Regulator warns cable operators over complianceIndian telecom sector regulator, the Telecom Regulatory and Authority of India (Trai) has warned cable operators in the county to comply with the regulations relating to transition from analogue to digital signals.

Trai secretary Rajeev Agrawal said, "There will be legal action if they remain non-compliant. The authority can go for prosecution against their CEOs." The regulator also said that the inaction by local cable operators and multi-system operators (MSO) is unacceptable and warned that it might take legal action against the operators who do not comply with the regulations.

The government has made it mandatory for all subscribers to switch to digital signals for televisions form older analogue platform in four metro cities in the country. The transition is being expanded to other cities in the country and the calbe TV subscribers have been mandated to make arrangements for the switch within time so as to allow subscribers to easily move to the new and improved platform.

TRAI said that the cable TV subscriber management system in cities have not been effectively implemented in the four cities. The criticism comes just days ahead of the deadline on 30 March, 2013 for 38 cities to move to the digital platform in the phase two of the programme.
