Oscars backlash absolutely not surprising, says Michelle Obama

Oscars backlash absolutely not surprising, says Michelle Obama New York, Mar. 2 : Michelle Obama, who was an unexpected surprise with her satellite appearance at last Sunday's Oscar ceremony, has said that it's absolutely not surprising" that critics are accusing her of selfishly crashing the awards ceremony in an attempt to upstage it.

Beamed live from the White House into the Dolby Theater, the First Lady had unsealed the envelope and announced that `Argo' had won the Best Picture Oscar.

She told the New York Post that her bangs and shoes can set off a national conversation and that's just sort of where she is; she has lots of talking going on.

Michelle said that it's like everybody's kitchen-table conversation is now accessible to everybody else so that there's a national conversation about anything.

She also acknowledged that she and Barack have an added appeal and are sometimes subject to extra scrutiny as they are the first black family in the White House and are a young couple with young kids.

Despite the heightened scrutiny, Michelle said that she doesn't give a second thought to critical comments about what she does as first lady.

She added that her strategy is to do things that further her larger goals and Oscar night fit with her support for the arts. (ANI)
