Hero’s workers' union to go on hunger strike from February 28 in Gurgaon
The Hero MotoCorp Workers' Union (HMCWU) at the company's plant in Gurgaon near Delhi has said that its members will stage a hunger strike from February 28.
The protest is to demand higher wages after several rounds of negotiations between the company and the workers failed to reach a settlement between the two sides. The union representatives have held several meetings, which were overseen by the officials form Haryana government's labour department, with the management of the company.
The union's office bearers will go on a hunger strike from Thursday to demand higher wages from the company for workers. The workers have been demanding higher wages and have been wearing black armbands since several months to express their disappointment.
"There has been no progress and the Hero management is bent upon forcing its stand of minor hikes only . We have now decided to go on hunger strike to press our demands and a notice has been issued to the company. Only the union members will take part in the protest and others would continue to work," a union member said.
The permanent employees are demanding an increment of around Rs 15,000 in monthly salary over a period of three years but the management has agreed to increase the salary by Rs 7,500-9 ,000 over the period. The union has garnered support form other trade unions in areas as well as workers' union from Maruti Suzuki and Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India.
