Delhi has the highest per capita income in India, reportAccording to a new report, Delhi has the highest monthly per capital income in India and it also is on the top of the spending list in the country.

The report by Delhi government titled, "Level and Pattern of Household Consumer Expenditure in Delhi" states that per capita income of Delhi during 2009-10 was Rs. 1,16,886, which is the highest in the country. The per capital income was recorded at Rs. 1,16,886 in 2009-10.

Delhi's Chief Minister, Sheila Dikshit released the report in the national capital on Thursday. The monthly per capita expenditure (MPCE) of the people of Delhi in urban areas was recorded at Rs. 2,905 in 2010 compared to Rs.
2,078 in 2008.

The figure is highest among all states and Union Territories. The national average MPCE stood at just Rs. 1,984, according to the report. People in Delhi spend most of their income on food as about 36 per cent of MPCE in the city was for food.

The MPCE of 51 per cent of the total household in Delhi was Rs. 2,501. followed by 46 per cent in the range of Rs. 1,001-2,500. While, only about 3 per cent people was below Rs. 100.
