Rubenstein has been working with senior vice president for product innovation for the Personal Systems Group. The company did not announce future plans for Rubenstein but some reports suggest that he might be looking to take some time off.

He had joined Palm in 2007 and became CEO in 2009 when the company launched its first mobile phone powered by webOS. The operating system became very popular but the handset failed to attract customers.

Meanwhile, HP is planning to offer its webOS source code under an open-source license in September 2011, a move aimed at infusing new life into the platform.

HP is also planning to release the new version 2.0 of Enyo webOS developer tool as part of its overhaul of the platform. The new tool will allow developers to create applications that are supported on a wide range of mobile devise and desktop Internet browsers.
