Vienna, Oct 6 : President Pratibha Devisingh Patil, who is on a four-day state visit to Austria, said that India''s relations with Pakistan would improve if a conducive atmosphere is created between both countries.

Discussing India''s neighbourly relations with her Austrian counterpart Heinz Fischer, President Patil also said that relations with China have moved forward with the passage of time.

Meanwhile, briefing mediapersons, M Ganapathi, Secretary (West) in the External Affairs Ministry, said that there was a reference to India''s relationship with her neighbours during the talks.

"There was a reference to the situation in Pakistan and Indo-Pak relations, and also Sino-Indian relations in the discussion and primarily, the President did mention that we would look towards normalization of relations with Pakistan if the various factors conducive for this are provided. With the Chinese, of course, the President said that relationship has moved forward," said Ganapathi.

He said that Patil also thanked Austria for supporting India during the NSG nuclear-specific qualifier that was granted in 2008.

"The other issue which the President touched upon was nuclear energy, which she said will be a very important contributor to India''s energy process and development, and thanked Austria for support during the NSG nuclear-specific waiver which was granted in 2008," added Ganapathi. (ANI)
