Finance Minister Emphasized to Have Growth; No Link with InflationAs told by Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee during a parliament session on Thursday, growth and inflation are two different aspects and therefore, in no conditions, growth would be sacrificed. He said that growth is necessary and therefore, he appealed the opposition party to support the finance sector reform Bills.

According to Mukherjee, there exist no contradiction between growth and inflation. Also, when he heard some charges against his government in regard of being sensitive to the poor, he rebuffed them and said that this government had finally succeeded in bringing down food inflation from 22% to 8%, which is worth appreciation.

At the same time, he also admitted that the government still has to do a lot to bring down prices. He said, “Inflation is high and I accept it should be around five per cent, but it is beyond our control”.

When during a price rise debate yesterday, BJP leader Yashwant Sinha dig ‘Goodbye India’, in response to him he said that the new tagline for India would be 'Hello India, goodbye world'.

While stating that under recoveries of public oil companies will be Rs 1.22 lakh crore this financial year, he also emphasized over the matter that the luxury tax on diesel consumed by passenger care still needs to be reconsidered. He said there is a need to work upon this mechanism.
