President Pratibha Patil Seeks Government to Take Action against Black Money
The belief of many Indians was echoed by the President Pratibha Patil when she urged the government to work more effectively with campaigns against black money. The comments by Pratibha Patil came during the 150th anniversary of Income Tax.
During the celebration, all top Income Tax Officers were present. Patil said an environment of voluntary tax compliance has to be fostered and nurtured in the country. "This could best be done perhaps by inculcating voluntary tax compliance as a core duty," she said.
Patil during the celebration said that the government should take the help of other countries to get hold of the culprits hiding in foreign countries.
The day when Patil spoke openly about the growing problem of black money, the government, on the same day, moved to court asking it to review government’s decision of setting up a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the case of retired SC judge of having black money.
During the celebration, Finance Minister informed that the direct taxes are playing vital role in contributing to the exchequer with its share in the Central government revenue exceeding 56%.
M C Joshi, a Member of Central Board of Direct Taxes proposed of bringing group of schoolchildren to the Income Tax department to enlighten them about the working of the department.
