Despite certification, M&M faces challenges in US launchWhile the part of the $7.1 billion conglomerate, Mahindra Group, Indian auto major Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) has finally received the much delayed safety and emission certificate from the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to sell its compact diesel pick-up truck in the US market but it believed that the company may still face some challenges in launching its models in the US market.

It is to be mentioned here that M&M joins a select group of global automobile manufacturers and is the first Indian automobile manufacturer to receive the EPA certification for diesel powered Light Duty Vehicle (LDVs) but as there is a lawsuit is in consideration with its US distributor, a solution in the shot-run is not expected.

It may be recalled here that the M&M president (automotive) Pawan Goenka had said in May this year that M&M would launch the compact diesel pick-up truck in the US by the end of the year.

In fact, this could have made the company the first Indian company to sell an Indian-made vehicle in North America. It is to be mentioned here that the company currently sells its pick-ups in Europe, Africa and South America.
