Mahindra has huge targets on small farms

Mahindra has huge targets on small farmsWhile many of the tractor makers are eying to have presence in the biggest segment in horse power, Mahindra group is betting big on its small tractor, Yuvraj 215 that was launched last year with a price tag of around Rs 1.7 lakh.

It is to be mentioned here that while the 15hp vehicle is produced in modest numbers at the Rajkot plant currently, but since it is targeted at small farmers who traditionally use a pair of bullocks, the scope of its use could be more widespread.

Mr Gautam Nagwekar, Chief Executive of Mahindra Division (Farm Equipment Sector) said that if the company wants to retail ‘Yuvraj’ on a pan-India basis, it may require more plants in order to do that.

The company surely sees a huge opportunity for the product in the Indian market but the company’s well-to-do counterparts would require something smaller, in addition to their existing large tractor.

Moreover, the CEO of the division also mentioned the fact that the Mahindra brand in tractors is more than twice in size and share than any other individual brand in the market.
