Mercedes to soon begin the second shift at Chakan

Mercedes-Benz-ChakanThe German luxury car maker, Mercedes Benz has recently said that the company will soon be starting its operations on the second shift at its Chakan greenfield facility. It is to be mentioned here that the luxury carmaker has invested close to Rs 200 crore, to meet the increased demand in the Indian market.

Mercedes-Benz India Management Board -Member (Sales and Marketing) Director Debashis Mitra recently said that the company will soon be starting operations on the second shift at its Chakan unit which is very much capable of producing close to 5,000 units a year.

As the plant is spread across 100-acres, there is no denying to the fact that the plant still has capacity for future expansion. While the plant is still considered as one of the fastest constructions as far as the greenfield facilities in India are concerned. The unit was formally inaugurated on February 24, 2009.

Clearly, with the competition heating up in the Indian luxury car space, Mercedes is trying its best to ensure that it is able to stay ahead of the competition to retain its pole position in the Indian luxury car space.
