Lawmakers to check Toyota’s internal test reports

ToyotaUnsatisfied lawmakers on Friday asked Toyota Motor Corp to submit results of its internal tests, which as per the automaker found no electronic problems causing Toyota's vehicles to accelerate suddenly. Lawmakers also wanted the company to make its staff, who have any knowledge about the testing, available for congressional interviews.

Regulators issued such request after the data released on Thursday by the Department of Transportation claimed to have received over 60 sudden acceleration complaints from Toyota users after the company repaired their cars under the recall program.

As per the lawmakers the documents submitted in February by the Japanese auto maker was not convincing enough and some content in those document give an impression that a rigorous study was not undertaken.

"We do not understand the basis for Toyota's repeated assertions that it is 'confident' there are no electronic defects contributing to incidents of sudden unintended acceleration," Henry A. Waxman, Chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, and Bart Stupak, Head of the panel's investigations subcommittee wrote in a letter to Toyota's sales head in the US.

The lawmakers also asked the company to file quarterly reports throughout the year highlighting any complaints received by the company.
