Tata AutoComp Plans Expansion; Rolls Out New Range Of Invertor Batteries
Tata AutoComp GY Batteries (TAGB), an equal joint venture of Tata AutoComp Systems and Japan's GS Yuasa, is all set to invest around Rs 100 crore in order to swell its four-wheeler automotive battery manufacturing ability to one million units by October 2008.
The company also said that this capacity would further be increased up to 2 million units over the coming two-three years.
Besides, the company also announced that it would invest around Rs 25-30 crore to start production of two-wheeler batteries by the end of the existing year (2008).
Mr. Yogesh Dhawan, Chief Executive Officer, Tata AutoComp GY Batteries said, “Currently, we are importing batteries for two-wheelers. But, by the end of this year, we would start manufacturing on our own.”
Mr. Dhawan also said that the company plans to establish a new line at its subsisting facility at Ranjangoan near Pune.
“Initially, the two-wheeler battery production will be about two million, which will be expanded to four million,” he said.
Dhawan said TAGB would also be eyeing more original equipment and other institutional supplies in th eiNdian market.
He said, “We have bagged an order for supplying 25,000 batteries from the Indian Army (estimated to be valued around Rs12 crore) in March-April this year.”
The company has also bagged orders to supply to Tata Motors’ Nano, Ace, Indica and also to other original equipment manufacturers including Piaggio’s mini truck Ape.
The company has also rolled out its new invertor battery range, which is priced between Rs 9,478 and Rs 10,280.
