Hong Kong  - Hong Kong shares slumped to a three-week low Friday when the city's stock market reopened in a gloomy mood a day after the National Day public holiday.

The blue-chip Hang Seng Index fell 579.76 points, or 2.77 per cent, to close at 20,357.49 points. Turnover was 56.9 billion Hong Kong dollars (7.34 billion US dollars.)

Bank stocks, including shares in market heavyweight HSBC Holdings Plc, led the fall in prices as the Hong Kong index caught up with two days of losses on Wall Street triggered by weak manufacturing and jobs data. (dpa)
