A prominent increase in meat and diary manufacturing industry has been noticed in the figures revealed by Statistics New Zealand today. For the March 2009 quarter, sales volumes in the sector have increased over 23%.

It should be noted though that only a slight increase was seen in the total manufacturing sales volumes and 12 out of total 15 industries recorded enormous fall, compared with last year.

If adhered to Federated Farmers Policy Adviser, David Cooper, then the positive figures for the meat and dairy sector are the result of a rise in demand, and drop in supply which could help pull the economy out of recession.
