Elektrobit announces “Elektrobit Satellite-Cellular Hybrid Phone” at CTIA
The versatile engineering company in Wireless and Automotive businesses - Elektrobit (EB Corporation) has announced that it is working to develop be the world's first satellite cellular hybrid phone. The Oulunsalo, Finland based Elektrobit has announced its satellite-cellular hybrid phone, also called Satellite-Terrestrial Device, at CTIA 2009, Las Vegas.
Elektrobit has stated that it will launch the first ever "Elektrobit Satellite-Cellular Hybrid Phone" by the end of 2009. The company has declared that "Elektrobit Satellite-Cellular Hybrid Phone" will feature a sleek design similar to smartphones.
According to Elektrobit, the "Elektrobit Satellite-Cellular Hybrid Phone" will not be bulky, instead it will be easy-to-slip-into-pocket phone. It will have the look of ultra modern phones. The compactly designed new Elektrobit Satellite-Terrestrial Device will not have any external antenna, and it will be almost of the size of a smartphone.
The "Elektrobit Satellite-Cellular Hybrid Phone" will be touchscreen device, running on Windows Mobile 6.5 Professional operating system. It will feature a QWERTY keyboard, 3.0 MP Camera with autofocus and flash, and 100 MB Internal memory with support for MicroSD. It will offer support for GPS, WiFi connectivity (for sharing data wirelessly), Terrestar 2.2 GHz, Bluetooth, Quadband GSM/EDGE and Dual-band North American 3G.
The Elektrobit Satellite-Terrestrial Device will come packed with the satellite terrestrial voice and data capabilities. It will be capable of offering SMS, MMS, Email, Push to Talk and Location Based Services. The company, however, did not disclose the pricing and exact launch time of "Elektrobit Satellite-Cellular Hybrid Phone".
